6 Day Mysore Style Ashtanga Retreat on Porto Santo, Madeira
3rd - 8th, 10th - 15th & 18th - 23rd November 2024
Simon will be giving 3 weeks of Mysore Style Ashtanga retreats on the tranquil island of Porto Santo in November, where will enjoy intense Mysore style Ashtanga practice, and idyllic beach weather.
Each morning will have Pranayama, Mysore Style practice and a talk.
During week one (3rd to 8th of November) the talks will be on Samkhya Philosophy with Alyson Simeone
During week 2, (10th – 15th of November) the talks will be on Yoga Anatomy with Cristiano Pestana
During week 3 (18th – 23rd of November) the talks will be on ‘Bringing Yoga into Life’ with Simon.
In the afternoons, there will optional teacher training workshops, or you will be free to enjoy the nearby beaches and beautiful November climate of Porto Santo
This Retreat Is For You
- If you already know some of the Ashtanga Primary Series and want to deepen your practice;
- If you are curious to proceed into the Intermediate or Advanced Series;
- If you are interested in the origins of Yoga and its subtler aspects, such as Pranayama, Meditation and Philosophy;
- If you are curious about the anatomy and physiology of yoga.
N.B. this retreat also may be counted as Module 2 (philosophy theme) or 3 (anatomy theme) of Asturias Yoga´s 200hr Teacher Training, program, a certified YTT through Yoga Alliance.

Workshops
On this retreat there will be three ‘Hands on Adjustment’ workshops where you will learn how to assist others in Primary Series Postures. This will give you a deeper insight into the alignment of the Asanas.
If you are already a teacher, these workshops will give you some efficient and effective techniques for assisting students.
There will also be a workshop on preparatory exercises on how to begin practicing the challenging Intermediate Series. Even if you are not ready yet to begin this series, this workshop will show you how to work towards it and empower your Primary Series through deeper back bending and hip flexibility.
These workshops are optional, and if you prefer to spend your afternoons exploring the surrounding Picos de Europa, you are welcome to do so
Location
Nestled in Barroca, Vila Baleira, on Porto Santo Island, the house is just a 10-minute stroll from pristine beach and a quick 5-minute walk to the town center and supermarket. You can enjoy the island breeze in the house’s gardens, rinse off under the outdoor shower with heated water, and savour mouthwatering vegetarian BBQ delights. Complete with cozy bed linens, plush bath towels, and provided WiFi, our house ensures your comfort as you immerse yourself in the tranquility of Porto Santo.
Food
We are blessed on this retreat to have Cristiano and Matilde, two gifted vegetarian cooks. They amazed and delighted us on a retreat in Asturias with their colourful and delicious creations, making creative use of local ingredients herbs and spices. Their passion for cooking is obvious. You will enjoy the Indian influence, coming from Cristiano’s time living in Goa and learning directly in home kitchens.
