“Ashtanga”- 8 limbs – is an ancient approach to yoga practice, directed towards living a purposeful, healthy, self-realized life in harmony with all beings. The practice of yoga asana has the effect of lightening and strengthening our bodies, calming and focusing our minds, all of which helps to open our eyes to the beauty we are surrounded by.
Asturias Yoga is the culmination of the combined energies of two long-term yoga practitioners and teachers, Simon Loughlin and Alyson Simeone. We offer yoga courses, workshops and teacher trainings focussed mainly on Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and Saoirse Yoga (our own direct approach to Ashtanga). Retreats always include deeply restorative Yoga Nidra and insightful Vipassana Meditation, sometimes taking place in magical outdoor spaces in the surrounding nature. We also have retreats that merge yoga with hiking or rock-climbing.
Our “on site” retreats in Asturias take place from mid-March until the end of October. We also lead retreats and workshops in other locations worldwide. In 2024 Simon will give retreats in Madeira, Czech Republic and Ireland.
The Asturias Yoga Shala is located in the mountain forests of the Picos de Europa, Spain’s largest national park and Europe’s most biodiverse area. The retreat centre is a restored, self-sufficient hamlet amidst a lush, chestnut forest, 100% off-grid. Once upon a time, shepherds would use this cluster of cottages and land as a resting and grazing stop on their way to the high “Picos de Europa.” Throughout the process of restoring this hamlet, our aim has been to do so in collaboration with the surrounding environment, and to protect the precious simplicity of the space.
Asturias Yoga was founded by yoga teachers Simon Loughlin and Alyson Simeone. Years of shared inspiration, dedicated practice, and a will to share have come to fruit as our retreat centre in the Picos de Europa.
